More than 375 nutritionists attend thought-provoking, Lallemand Animal Nutrition-sponsored pre-conference

Lallemand Animal Nutrition was selected to host the pre-conference symposium at the Cornell Nutrition Conference in Syracuse, NY on October 20. The North American team took this opportunity to present thought-provoking information that was non-traditional for this venue, which resulted in rave reviews from the nutritionists and industry professionals in attendance.

“We wanted to put together a program that was different than the usual presentations on product research,” says Bob Charley, PhD, MSB, CBiol, Forage Products Manager, Lallemand Animal Nutrition, North America. “I believe the resulting program left the audience scratching their heads – in a positive way. One gentleman told me he wouldn’t be able to sleep that night because he’d be thinking too much about what he heard.”

The program was entitled Diverse impacts of microbial interactions and the four presentations included:

  • GUT MICROBIOME AND NEUROCHEMICAL-BASED INTERACTIONS BETWEEN HOST, MICROBIOTA AND DIET: IMPLICATIONS FOR BEHAVIOR AND DISEASE

Dr. Mark Lyte, College of Veterinary Medicine Iowa State University

  • IMPACT OF MYCOTOXINS ON THE HEALTH AND PRODUCTIVITY OF DAIRY CATTLE

Dr. Greg Penner, University of Saskatchewan

  • OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE GUT HEALTH IN RUMINANT PRODUCTION SYSTEMS

Dr. Michael Steele, University of Alberta

  • USING HOST RESPONSE MODELS TO UNDERSTAND PROBIOTIC SPECIFICITY

Dr. Thomas Tompkins, Lallemand Health Solutions

“The speakers presented cutting-edge information about the gut microbiome, microbial interactions within the animal and opportunities to improve health and performance for dairy cattle,” says Angel Aguilar, PhD, Dipl., ACAN, Technical Services Manager, Lallemand Animal Nutrition, North America. “Then, Dr. Tompkins wrapped up the session with some experience Lallemand has on the human side to help demonstrate the importance of strain and solution specificity.”

The feedback was very positive from the record-breaking crowd in attendance, and those that weren’t able to attend. Comments were shared about this being the best symposium ever presented at this meeting and regrets from those who weren’t able to attend but were told it was a very interesting session.

“This session helped solidify Lallemand as an industry leader, both in the way we presented ourselves but perhaps more importantly in the way we brought new information to this important audience,” Dr. Charley says. “We set the bar high for ourselves and other companies who will be hosting this session in future years.”

The four speakers contributed papers to the conference proceedings, which are available upon request to lannamarketing@lallemand.com.
